Hi, Why are we in S scale? Heck, I just read Pieter Roos writings on the S-list and folks, you must admit, that's what it we're all about.
"I have a Huff-n-Puff (former Mainline Models) REA express reefer that I used the AM passenger trucks on. It looks ok, especially after I put 33 inch freight car wheels in place of the 36 inch passenger wheels (yes, it's a very small difference, but seems to help and is correct for express reefers). I also built up my own bolsters out of wood and styrene sheet to get the coupler height correct, the supplied cast parts left the car towering in the air like it was on stilts." Yep, cutting here, chopping there, and what do you have? A pretty neat Railway Express Reefer! Way back in the early sixties, I believe it was my second kit, I built the Kinsman Express Reefer. Back then, I had AF wheelsets on it. But, after going to scale, I purchased Don Heimbergers Express trucks and they are still runnin' OK! I do find the car noisy because of the metal trucks, wheelsets and wood body. I promised myself someday I'll pull that car and work on it again. Quiet it down and "Gulp!"detail the underbody. Yep, what a great list!
