Sounds like a short circuit to me.  Possible causes:  one of the 
feeder wires got attached to the wrong rail, turnouts are not 
properly gapped/insulated for power feeding in from the frog end 
(backside).

Maybe a hot toddy and opening some Christmas presents will cause the 
pain and anguish and frustration to diminish.  Deal with it on Sunday 
morning.
