Bill......

"S"eems to me that you are judging the entire NMRA organization of today
on the basis of a few convention committee member comments made over ten
years ago. Hardly fair. Perhaps the problem was related to the S
representative on the committee? Just a possibility to be considered.

I have been to many NMRA conventions without any anti-S or pro-HO
problems of any kind. But, as with most conventions, lots of sharing of
ideas, techniques, etc. were available for enjoyment. The convention in
Toronto, for example, was filled with NMRA "leadership guys" who were
very helpful to S. Like the NMRA Prez Alan Pollack who imports a line
of S scale figures. Or the guy from the Seattle convention committee
who asked me who he could contact regarding having an S scale car for
the convention car. Or the many opportunities for joint NMRA/ NASG
conventions. The stories go on and on.... All have been positive.

If you ever get around to building a layout, you will soon discover that
the HO and N guys, being so numerous, have lots of skills and
experiences in the electronics and scenery making areas which are
directly useable in S scale. Most NMRA members are very willing to help
out with problem solving and advice. On my layout, for example, there
are more HO/NMRA man-hours devoted to it's construction than S/NASG
man-hours. By a l-o-n-g shot for sure. And who can say they really
enjoy every single soul in the NASG? I sure don't. There is always a
bad apple here and there, but that should not affect your opinion of the
entire group. Remember, we Americans are supposed to be tolerant. Both
groups help make the hobby better and deserve some compliments once in a
while.

Cheers....Ed L.
