Dick, John and all,

1. I should have specified I was referring to the sleepers, not the cafe
car. I understand that right now only the undecorated version are available
but AM web site does not make distinction between the undecorated and
painted version once available.

2. I appreciate the fact there are some plus value to the NASG cars but at
the end, I will use only one set of wheel and only one or two sets of decals
since I will not use the same car name twice.

3. Usually, when I put money upfront for a project, I expect to have a small
reduction off the final retail price once delivered or plus value as number
2.

4. I expect to receive the product before it is (any versions) available for
retail, especially from the manufacturer.

5. The initial offer was for NASG members, now anyone outside NASG can buy
one and receive theirs, undecorated for now, and maybe even before me for
less than what I paid for.

I just feel something is not right, NASG or AM, not sure but I believe as a
customer and NASG member, I have reason to be disappointed. Dick and John,
you both know how many cars I took, maybe one of the largest individual
order and the $5 would have made a significant difference. It is not meant
to criticize any NASG individual as I know you are volunteers and appreciate
the work you have both done and continue doing.

I had to speak up

Simon

Subject: Re: [S-Scale Modeling] New S Scale Pullman Heavyweights - A Few
Questions

Paul, Simon, et al --

I am somewhat disturbed by the messages below. Allow me to make the proper
distinctions...

1. The NASG Pullman project includes both the 12-1 and 10-1-2 cars and
excludes the cafe car. American Models is offering only the cafe car
separately. These projects are not related -- I.e., the NASG
has nothing to do with the cafe cars.

2. The NASG cars have some features that American Models generally does not
include in its usual offerings: Dry transfers for car names, wheelsets for
both hirail and scale, couplers for both hirail and
scale, and instructions for choosing your car names as well as reducing the
operating radius. AM's cars have traditionally been available for hirail OR
scale, not both in the same box. And they do not
contain the NASG dry transfers for car names. These transfers were made
exclusively for the NASG and have a retail value of $5.00 per set. Given
this alone, the prices of the NASG Pullmans and the AM cafe
cars are identical (within 5 cents).

I see nothing wrong with AM's business practices here. It makes good sense
to me for AM to offer a companion product to the NASG Pullmans. They are of
equal value for what you get, and they do not compete
with each other.

Regarding delivery of the 12-1 and 10-1-2 cars -- The CNR and grey cars were
delayed because AM ran out of wheelsets and had to reorder. They arrived in
late December. AM estimated another 30 days to pack
and ship the grey and CNR cars to the NASG for distribution to purchasers.
Orders that include the CNR and/or grey cars (even if they also ordered red
and/or green cars) will be filled when the CNR and
grey cars are received from AM. People who ordered only green and/or red
cars already have theirs.
