John, I will never be a NMRA contest winner, but several years ago I scatchbuilt several ET&WNC wooden freightcars in SnS. Clevis and turnbuckles and Grandt line nuts and bolts. Looked really good and may have won a regional contest or top 3. Thing is we all can build like John Allen or any of the other great names. But it took hours and hours to do 1 scratchbuild cars. John was a bachelor. Some people never watch tv or get on the internet. I don't think it's a matter of ability to build a great layout. It's we don't want to spend the time. It's a compromise I'm coming to live with. Do you do any ACL modeling? George
