Hi group. I'm not familiar with the specifics of AF transformers, but
you may want to check on the following. If the transformer is solidly
mounted to the cabinet, any noise it makes will be magnified by the
cabinet. Remount it using rubber grommets through the mounting holes. No
part of the mounting screws or transformer itself can touch any part of
the metal cabinet. Also, look and see how the wire windings on the
transformer itself are wrapped. Sometimes if the wires got kinked, or
the epoxy got knocked off, they can vibrate where they touch. Also look
at the plates themselves. If there are any spaces between them, are any
bent and touching each other? Also, if they have the old style
rectifiers with the large plates, are they secure, not touching, etc. As
a last resort, you can always take the transformer apart, coat
everything with epoxy, and rewrap the wires around the plates. (But,
that would be a job I wouldn't want to do). Hope it helps. Barry.
