All -- There have been lots of suggestions about the origin of the "mystery casting." It appears to be the drop equalizers of an AAR Type A diesel switcher truck in S scale. Rollie Mercier nailed it, I think, as a component of a Cascade Hobby Products drive kit for a Loco Workshop EMD switcher.
