There is another way to do it, and I have seen it done with code .172 in O gauge. Spring-loaded frogs. The springs are on the outside of the wing rails, and a bar passes through the webs to hold everything together. The old KCUS O scale layout had all spring frogs, and they worked great. BUT--I don't see them feasible for .125 rail or smaller.
