I converted several AF gons back in the '70's. I removed the AF truck mounting base to get a flat surface and used Ace flat bolster conversions (don't ask me the # right now). They make nice conversions. I also did one flat car the same way. I used the Ace mounting screws to hold them in place, then filed the screw ends down where they protruded through the carbody. I did an article in the S Gaugian about the gons, if you can find a copy of it.
