Folks...
These kinds of comments remind me of an old story related by Arden
Goerhing back when we both had a full head of hair. Seems as though
Arden was an ardent fan of Union Pacific and the proper shade of Armor
Yellow was a favorite topic of the UP guys. Much hot air was passed
around regarding the "correct" color of yellow to be used on cabooses,
etc. At one convention, Arden and (I think) Tom Marsh decided to go out
and look at a bunch of UP equipment parked on a nearby siding. The goal
was to establish once and for all which yellow shade was correct for the
UP. The story that I heard upon Arden's return that any shade of Armor
Yellow would probably work OK since all the cars were different from
each other. Age, sun, different paint batches, rain, dirt, etc., and so
forth had all worked their effects onto the rolling stock on said siding
(numerous mucho cars if I remember correctly). Soon thereafter, the hot
air pertaining to the "correct" shade of UP yellow seemed to dissipate.
Could the same be said of the Canadien National RR? Just
wondering.....I ain't no expert. Cheers...Ed L.
