Dick & list:

I know you are not the only one who feels this way. One reason I
have heard articulated is that NMRA weighed cars are too heavy for
grades. I was wondering if there were any other reasons.

My preference, primarily based on my experience running that very
small hard to see stuff I used to have (I think they called it HO
<VBG>) was that properly weighed cars (per NMRA standards) tracked
better and resisted stringlining. Further, generally speaking, it
does not matter where cars are placed in the train.

Since my focus is on operations, I have been re-studying this issue
ever since my switch to S scale three years ago to see if my HO
experience would transfer over to S. So far the answer is "yes". I
am very pleased with the performance of my NMRA weighted cars.

No apparent issue with grades either. My S-Helper F3's (A-B) can
haul 40 weighed car trains up Edward Loizeaux's 1.4% grades without
breaking a sweat.

HOWEVER, brass engines pulling weighed cars may be a different
matter all together. Since I don't own any brass (yet), I do not
know the answer. Of course I am not going to lose sleep over this
issue - my planned layout will have grades for helper operations and
I can rely on my S-helper diesels to "help". <G>

Ok, back to taxes . . . . :-(
