In terms of getting a B&O Wagontop made in 1/64, we just had this
discussion on this list only a few weeks ago! Nothing in the
realities of model manufacturing has changed!

I will repeat two important points:

1. In the classic era, general service box cars were, in effect,
operated as a naitonwide pool. This means that XM box cars
belonging to <any> road were likely to travel over any other road.
Obviously, the further afield the fewer you'd see, but this has been
one of the basic tenets of the "Essential Freight Cars" series in
RMC. Bottom line: yes, the B&O wagontops are something <everybody>
needs at least one of.

2. B&O wagontops can be divided into two main categories: the M53,
which were built new; and the M15k, which were rebuilds that
involved putting a new wagontop superstructure on the undeframes
from wood-sheathed box cars built before World War I. The two
different cars look the same at a glance, and for all I know the
curved side/roof panels were identical (that would be advantageous
for a model mfr), but their underframes were <completely
different>! Any mfr who takes on wagontops should know this and at
least make an effort to design their model and the manufacturing
process so that both types can be modeled, or at least knowledgably
decide to do the M53 or the M15k accurately. This is true of
wagontop availability in HO scale, and as I have often pointed out,
if S-scale is ever to get respect, <every new S-scale product must
be at least as good or preferably better than its HO counterpart>.
Now, if you haven't had blinders on for the last few years, some new
HO products are awfully good, and it is a challenge for even the
best to out-do them.

The poll results are in....... To REPLY to the list, use REPLY ALL, to reply
to the sender, use REPLY. I do NOT know if this works on all e-mail software,
but it works on some of the most common ones. For those of you on DIGEST mode,
all REPLY messages go to the list.
