Everyone, Although this has really very little to do with the UP
trademark thing, I caught a few minutes of a local news broadcast
Saturday evening. Seems as though the East bound Amtrak's Sunset
train got put in the hole by the UP in Houston. The train normally
arrives near noon every other day from the West. There was a 10 hour
delay making the train arrive in New Orleans a full eighteen hours
late. The run was terminated in New Orleans rather than continuing to
Florida. The entire route from L A to New Orleans runs over the old
SP's Sunset route, of course now owned by the UP. The UP as been
blasted by many local shippers, Houston's mayor, and of course modelers.
Unfortunately, UP's being in bed with the present and past Washington
administrations has made it a near monopoly in much of the country.
The UP is a great railroad to model, but I do separate my modeling
interests from what is good for the country!
