Tom Stolte is right. I do owe an apology for sending a message with
incorrect information about UP and their copyrights. Please accept my apology.
The source for the incorrect information I shared on Monday is someone who
has signed an earlier agreement with UP that only included licensing of the UP
shield and a related slogan. Yesterday he received a new licensing agreement
from UP for all the fallen flags. He is refusing to sign, not just for
business reasons, but because the UP law folks lied to him when he signed the
earlier
agreement. He is about as angry at UP as one could be.
He still claims the UP lost a lawsuit over this issue before the Supreme
Court. It does seem reasonable that we would have read about that if it
happened.
I do not want to challenge my friend but it appears to me that there may be
some confusion about this. At least I cannot clarify this.
I am not going to say anymore about this because it is obvious I know and
understand a lot less about what is happening on this issue than I thought I
did
when I wrote my earlier message on the subject on Monday. I am embarrassed
and hope you will accept my apology.
