Hi Ed, I had a similar challenge with CN green and yellow diesels. I have painted a couple of engine in this paint scheme, In both cases, I had success by paint and mask method. I use the Tamya masking tape which is very fine. I lay the tape on a sheet of styrene and cut the stripes the proper width and or taper.
Once the strip colour is applied, I then mask the area and paint the body colour, or I will mask the outside of the strips instead and sometime both methods if more than one colour is needed (like the CN engines, yellow first, green then the narrow black strips). I personally never used any form of decals or dry transfer for striping, (except on my first striping paint job and I have started over with paint) I found it is much easier and have a much better result using mask and paint. Honestly, When I look at paint jobs, I can tell most of the time when decals were used for striping. I think using decals the proper way when there are lot of relief details or areas that are not flat (like the rounded nose of EMD's F units), it is even more difficult than masking when it comes to stripping. You should try it... Simon The poll results are in....... To REPLY to the list, use REPLY ALL, to reply to the sender, use REPLY.
