Hi, Well fellow friends on our internet/cyber Yahoo S Scale List, we had our first "Get Together" meeting Thursday night[7-28-05 ].
The previous meeting ran an hour late, thusly, our meeting did not get started until nearly 11:00 PM. However, we still had in attendance 38 members. 15 or possibly more, went to bed, not waiting for our meeting to start. This was later reported to me by many. Those who did attend did get a Hershey Candy bar and a First Meeting Commemorative card. I did chase the others around, making sure they got a Hershey Bar and a an Commemorative card. What I found to be of most interest were the varied personal introductions of our fellow members modeling habits. (1)That being said; Ed Loizeaux gave great talk on his dealings with the Andy Sperando of Model Railroader magazine fame. Over simplified; Ed said, get some terrific images of your layout, [your layout doesn't have to be complete] and mail them into Model Railroader. If they like what they see, they will come a running to do their own setups and then ask you to send in your story. Then they will come back and ask you to title the images they have taken. According to Ed, that is how his MR fame started and placed into the magazine. (2)Then Don Heimberger gave a nice talk on S Gauge then and now. A side note; I had previously talked to Don about starting up a S Scale magazine. Don said it wouldn't work at this time because we scalers represent perhaps 10-15% of S gauge. He tries to have at least that much percentage of scale material, many times more, in the S Gaugian. If we're honest with ourselves, Don is right. However, we S scalers feel we're a strong group and hope that eventfully, down the proverbial road, we will be in the majority. Did you know the S Gaugian circulation bounces around the 5,000 mark, His Bi-Annual S n3 magazine does quite well too! (3) Well, we then closed out the meeting with Stan Furmanak's Power Point "Speeder" presentation, assisted by a very knowledgeable Speeder Club Member, Lee McCarty. We also had an Q&A session! Well, [gulp!] we closed out our great meeting at around 12:15 AM It has now been suggested that we continue on with this tradition and that I continue to head it up. Well if you would like to do that, and would like me to be your leader, I'm willing. But you will have to let me know how you feel. Also, the meeting will have to be put on the 2006 NASG convention schedule, and the meeting time will have to be much earlier in the evening. Plus, also not conflicting with the BOT meeting. "S"incerely, Bill Fraley Due to all the "chaos," I did not have sign up sheet. Would every member who attended the meeting, [plus those who turned in early,] please send me an email, letting me know, so I can get an actual count.
