Howdy Tom and all

Since the F89 has been in production since 1963, there are many
variations of the beast out there. Trailer Train Co. used the extra
letter to designate different variations and on the F89, there were 14
variations according the great article in the Aug 95 Railroad Model
Craftsman.... copies probably available from the NMRA Library!

Versions included BTTX, TTBX, CTTX, TTDX, TTEX, ITTX, JTTX, KTTX, MTTX,
RTTX, STTX, TTX, WTTX, and XTTX.

The vanilla F89 was lettered TTX and had two hitches. End bridge plates
were on the cars as built, but removed starting in 1985 since circus
unloading had been phased out in favor of overhead loading.

My favorite is a photo in the RMC article of a JTTX car which the N&W
had added 6' gon sids and ends to form an 89' gon!

Take care
Bill
