I think everything is possible (other than just swap all the electronic for DCC) but it needs reverse engineering and experts willing to put the time and effort to make a adaptor module to use a DCC decoder and use the existing sound.
Of course, I don't think the effort is worthy, especially that sound decoders started to go down in price. Soundtraxx DSD are now available almost half price and I am sure the Tsunami will come out cheaper than announce originally. I think the scale wheels are more a concern and having seen the engine in Altoona, I don't like the flared boiler at the bottom to stock all the TMCC electronics and gadgets.
