Folks, Danny Click called me Sunday evening and was wondering when the
Houston S Gaugers were going to meet next. I said that perhaps we would
meet this Friday evening at my home. However, if any of you have been
tuned to the weather information you know we are going to get a 'big
one'. I thought of taking my generator home and running the trains with
it and have a hurricane operating session...one the other hand maybe not!
I know of only two S gaugers that are in the immediate evacuation
area, Rusty Paulus and Roger Huber. If the hurricane 'models' turn out
as stated they will have a rough time staying dry. They both live close
to the Houston Ship Channel which is lined with hundreds of miles of
tracks servicing a large petro-chemical complex containing companies
like Exxon, Shell, Phillips, BP, Citgo, Shamrock and hundreds of related
plants. Most of the rest of us are on the West side of the city (but
the 'dirty' side of the storm) so we don't expect a storm surge but do
except rain flooding and high winds. Additionally most neighborhoods
have very mature trees that tend to crash on roof tops when the ground
becomes too wet and soft. That is a major concern of mine, so tonight I
will be boxing up my brass and other goodies and try to find the best
place for them. Hopefully twenty years of layout building will not be
lost, even thought it may not be the greatest layout in the world.
