I thought there might be some experience among veterans in this group
about turning down flanges. I bought a Bachmann On30 Mogul. Its
flanges are .037 deep, and the NASG standard is .030 (as is the NMRA
On3 standard).

How does one turn the flanges? Do you have to pull the drivers off the
axles? If you're patient, is it possible to turn them in the
locomotive without burning up the motor and linkages? I have a lathe,
but am a total novice with it. If you turn them in a lathe, how do you
mount them in the lathe?

Someone mentioned this locomotive as a possible S Scale conversion. I
am going to widen it to On3, which involves moving each driver out
.050 inches. For S scale, this would have to be .120, and might
require new axles. If people are interested, I could let you know how
the conversion goes.
