I am currently a high-railer wanting to go universal, that is to have a
layout and be able to run both scale and high-rail. Then I would gradually
convert
(I will avoid the word upgrade to avoid offending anyone) rolling stock and
locomotives to scale if it was easy and affordable. My scale would include
both Kadee style couplers and scale wheels, and SHS and AM rolling stock and
locomotives (especially locomotives) in place of American Flyer, except for the
steamer I received as a child and some action cars like the mail-pickup car.

On reflection, I wonder if anyone would want to be a high-railer if American
Flyer had originally been produced with scale wheels and compatible track and
turnouts? But by being high-rail (or "higher-railer"?) it sure was easier to
place on the track when we were children.
