Hi group. Thanks for all the input - I'll keep it in mind. I'll loosely monitor DPH - I really like the models they showed at the shows. My planned layout, S or O, is based on a couple of principals from reading John Armstrong. The trains will be small and short, like the Ann Arbor, the NS locals around Belleville, Milan and Monroe, CSX around Romulus, etc. The main area will be the yard, with a few yard buildings. The rest will be mainline, like the CSX near Monroe and Romulus, just track, fields, and roads. The plan is to model what I see when I railfan, and just let the trains run through vacant scenery. I may put a few buildings around, just for a scale relationship. Or to model a small village with a few buildings along the tracks, like Whittaker, and some villages in Monroe County. Trains interest me when they are traveling through the countryside - not the urban or built up areas. As for size, you're right. The Atlas turntable my friend has is one big piece of equipment. I believe it is 2 feet in diameter - but then he has a large corner where he can put it along with a future roundhouse, outside of his 66 inch radius. Thanks again, Barry.
