The only one item that I know of that might have influnced his thinking was an AF steam loco. All of his cars, locos, and cabooses are SHS and AM; he presently uses absolutely no AF rolling stock except for one steamer that was an AF 0-8-0. It is now a 2-8-0, heavily modified, detailed, and repainted for the BC&G. And I think it's going to be retired when he gets his SHS 2-8-0.
AF steamers do not easily convert to scale wheels, though come to think of it, there was a man somewhere north of Chicago, Hans Krause (?), who had two AF 0-8-0s with scale wheels.
