Gents...."S"eems to me this is a brass COLLECTORS poll which, by
definition, excludes those who desire to operate and enjoy model trains
running on layouts.  COLLECTORS are simply investors by a different
name.  Folks looking for appreciation in value for future resale.  Don't
scratch the box or put the train on the track since it will lower the
value!  That would be terrible.  

I think this poll shows that 18% of those who answered the question do
it in S scale.  Given the large amount of cheap Chinese mass produced
plastic in the other scales, perhaps S scale -- as usual -- is lagging
behind with a high proportion of brass collectors.  Though I have yet to
meet my first genuine S scale brass collector.  Everyone I knows runs
'em and complains if'n they do not run well.
