Ted,
I've started picking up some vehicles & found exactly the same
problem (this one too small, this one too big, etc...).

I've since resolved not to purchase anymore vehicles unless I view
them alongside an "Artista" figure and scale ruler.

I now walk into Toy'r'us with "Bert the Cop" & scale card in my
business card holder.

Personally I like vintage "Jada" vehicles (current 'von dutch'
& 'road rats' line), but they often have chopped tops & too fat
tires/rims.

Perhaps "S"calers could pool resources and order a 1,000 correct
wheelsets from a manufacturer?

Best regards,
Dennis Hultay Bloomfield NJ

People occasionally ask whether JL vehicles are truly S scale.
sadly,
most are undersize, a few are oversize, but there actually are
several
that are Just Right
