Hi John and Group. As a real estate appraiser for the County (Property
Tax System) here in Southeast Michigan, I do a lot of Agricultural
properties. If you are talking about the traditional wooden farm barn
with the gambrel roof, we generally find they are about 38 feet wide by
60 feet long. Of course, there are many variations. But, over the last
17 years I've been in the business, this seems to be the "standard"
measurement. These barns generally have a loft for hay/straw storage,
many are on a basement where they have cattle stored/fed/milked. Most of
these basements are made of stone or block, depending on year built.
They are generally about 25 feet high to the roof peak, above the
basement. The first floor is generally about 16 feet high, to the bottom
of the loft, so they can store the high farm equipment there. Many are
what we call a "bank" barn. They have a dirt berm/ramp in front to the
first floor, with the other sides of the basement being uncovered. Any
other questions, let me know, and I'll be happy to pass on what I know.
Hope this helps. Barry.

Subject: Re: [S-Scale Modeling] Walmart

I've seen individual John Deere stuff, but not a set. I wonder if this
set is availible at www.walmart.com? Is there a product # on it so I
can search their site?

But I'm curious... how much too big is this barn... and how do you
determine that something like that is too big? In other words, unless
something is based on a prototype (and I only assume this barn probably
isn't based on a prototype), then what would you have to compare it to
to come to such a determination?

seen this?
