The Pequea Valley Model RailRoaders (PVMR) NEW portable layout has just
returned from four days on operating display at DUTCHWAY FARM MARKET in
beautiful
southern Gap, PA. Almost every person, young or old, "English" or Amish
walking thru the doors smiled when they saw our American Flyer Train layout.
Many lingered for quite a while, one family came back every day, some for
multiple days. One lady, after finally dragging her 4 yr old son out the door
on
Thursday, bought an HO set, put it on plywood and set the Christmas tree up
over it, all by Friday evening. She brought the whole family back again on
Saturday. They stayed for an hour.
Other watchful parents corrected the few children (NO barriers) who reached
for a train, that in itself was refreshing. Almost everyone pushed the buttons
we installed. Women and children more readily then men.

The 8' X 12' layout was built (to be moved) by mostly TCA members and their
wives or girlfriends. Set-up requires about 2 hrs, Sat night tear-down and
loading, an hour and 15 minutes.

We had a four-year old Amish lad, who spoke no English as yet, operating the
passenger train for a while on Wednesday evening. When his Dad explained to
him that he had to stop at the station, he slowed the train down to a gentle
stop and then walked over to look between the train and station platform to
see if people got off and on the train. Just amazing.

Many of our "visitors" told us they dropped notes into the "Suggestion Box"
to bring us back. Management didn't advertize our being there because they
had NO idea of the response toy trains generate. Ah, conservative Lancaster
County, PA. They DO now.

Layout next appears at ROOT'S Country Market, off of PA Rt 72, on Sat Dec 10
from 9AM til 5 PM.
