Roy,
Wow, what a mouthful......you are so correct! It's amazing how willing
some are to spend/invest someone elses money. When it comes to show time,
I suspect the same whinner will make a big purchase of ONE! No product
will ever satisfy everyone, that's a known fact. But I think most
manufacturers/importers do the best they can with the RESOURCES they have.
As you indicated, if one is not satisfied, do a project with one's own
resources and see how well it is accepted. Some have, but most don't! I
consider myself a true scaler. I love detail. However, I don't have the
resources to be a rivet counter, so I accept what's available. I consider
myself fortunate in this hobby for what has been available. I'm a NYC
buff, interested in 1940-1960 (transition era). What isn't precisely what
I like, I don't buy it, or modify to my liking. Life is a compromise and I
think we Americans have forgotten that! If the detail is not sufficient,
then talk to the manufacturer/importer and be prepared to tell him, "I'll
pay the price and line up lots of customers." He'll probably welcome that
comment rather than the criticism! Unfortunately, the numbers in S-Scale
are a big part of the problem and further inflates the price.
