Yahoo Groups sent the poll results shown below. In summary, it looks
like:
1. About 35 folks voted. A rather poor showing (5%) out of the 728
members on this list.
2. 27 folks (77%) are willing to buy unpainted cars.
3. 33 folks (94%) are willing to buy individual cars without the
promise of an entire train.
4. In the painted heavyweight category, RTR and kits were desired about
equally.
5. In the painted smoothside category, RTR was somewhat more desired
than kits.
6. In all the painted categories, authentic cars were somewhat more
desired than generic cars.
7. On average, each respondent would purchase about 7-1/2 cars at a
price of $100.
8. The roadname "other" was most popular with the NYC in second place
and PRR third.
9. One person opined that "other" included many Canadian folks
interested in CP and/or CN.
That's all folks. Maybe some budding S scale manufacturer will find
