While washers may cost a bit more, they have some advantages:
    - if you buy the right size, they fit flush between the car sides so a
drop of glue is all that's needed to hold them firmly in place;
    - the hole can be placed over the truck screw, centering the weight
directly over the trucks;
    - all the weight is kept low in the car.
At my age, I am always looking for shortcuts so I can move forward.  50
cents extra on a $40-50 car is not a bad investment for the convenience,
IMO.
