Omnicon Sharks noisy?

Yes, I'd say my two are noisy. I also have two Omnicon F units with 
the same drive, and they are noisy, too. If you are being charitable, 
you might say they "whine." Omnicon used a Northwest Short Line gear 
tower, which even NWSL admitted was noisy.

I think it's the combination of the body and the sheet metal floor 
that creates the noise. With the body removed, the drive runs far 
quieter. I've considered ways to reduce the sound but haven't tried 
anything yet.

Besides the center gear towers from Overland F Unit drives, other 
options include using an American Models drive. I understand 
Railmaster of New Zealand sells a drive for Alco locomotives that 
might work.
