Here are comments on several "recent" topics. - Freight car trucks - I believe that one of the S scale magazines had a series by Kent Singer on S scale trucks that have been available at various times since the '50's.
- Somebody asked about engines that are available in S. There are some critters sold with HO running gear that are much closer to S scale than to HO scale. See http://trainweb.org/mhrr/ho-s-o/ho-s-o-rolling.html scroll down to Industrial Locomotives. - I recently saw some 20's - 30's semis from DaysGoneBy at my local hobby shop. I've never seen these before. This note is to tell you that they exist. - I asked about shorty piggyback trailers and decals. I found that Microscale has an S scale decal set for 25' ATSF trailers. Get 'em from Walthers or DesPlaines. Set #6459. - We saw notes here on kitbashing the AF plug door reefer into a SFRD reefer. A list member informed me to check Microscale for decals. DesPlaines Hobbies has them. - Regarding the lightweight passenger car topic, I'm wondering if this is a practical solution; make various low volume sides for specific car types using the laser cut method; see if American Models would have slides made for their injection mold that would be totally flat and inset just enough that the laser cut sides could be attached with the outside face at the correct exterior dimension. Leave sections of the molded sides to coincide with likely window locations on the laser cut sides. Is our local NASG looking for another project?
