Just received my New York Central System Historical Society issue of "The
Central Headlight". The society is behind in publishing dates so some issues
are chock full of photos. Not just train photos, but yards and barges and tug
boats and RR workers - which is great for me! This issue has photos of antique
automobiles being loaded by hand into box cars and a Model 40 Burro crane
working with rail tongs at Painesville, Ohio track pans. First real action
shot I've seen of an NYC Model 40. The issue ends with a color photo of the
deplorable condition of some RR equipment at a "museum" - regrettably an all
too common occurrence.

It reminded me once again of the rich human and industrial history of railroads
and also the relative fragility of all that history. I'll express a personal
opinion and you're always free to agree or disagree..., but as model
railroaders we should all be supporting at least one historical or technical
society. Preserving that history can only make our hobby better in the future.

Now to contemplate... what a great module or layout addition track pans would
make...!

Jim K.
