I can't help you with S scale but Peco switches for HO and N scales
operate this way with built in snap action on the points. I built an HO
switching layout using them and really liked it. I just snapped them
over with a finger or the eraser on the end of a standard ol' wooden
pencil.
While the ground throws are a slight bit more realistic I found that I
liked operating with the Peco snap-overs better. And on our club HO
layout we often have trouble with the few ground throws we have, the
one-piece handle and operating drum keep popping out of the switchstand
base. I don't know what brand they are.
