Andrew, if I am on the right path here, I think the bottom and (the
top as well) of the container post of the container is a female
socket. The stevedores on ships and the men in the train yards put a
male knuckle between the containers so they will nest.
The knuckle may be too small to do any good on the the model. Drill
a hole for a brass//steel pin (need 4) for all the corners thru the
deck of the flat car to fit in the female socket of the bottom of the
corner post.... or... glue a structural plastic styrene equal leg
angle from Evergreen outside each corner of the foot of the container
( you don't need it very high , less than 6 scale inches) to keep it
from sliding on the deck of the flat car.
What we need is a picture of a container on a flat car showing these
male knuckles, but you would be better served doing a pin or the angle
foot idea outside the corner of the container. The angle idea is not
prototype on the rr.
We do that to lash a tool container on a barge going to sea to keep
it from sliding on a steel deck.
Any pictures of the foot of a container on a flat car? Tom Hawley or
Greg Elems?
I do not have access to taking a picture of this without getting
locked up with the Homeland Security police.
If you have trouble getting styrene angle in Newfoundland contact me
off line, I think I have some around, thanks Jerry Smith Arnold,
Md
