Since Tom brought up the subject of S items of interest, how about open auto
carriers? The old, smaller 1950's variety.
Nearly as I can tell, there was only one ever made in S, and that was in kit
form years ago. Yet auto carriers were used in all part of the United
States, by most railroads no doubt. When I worked on the Santa Fe between
semesters, we moved hundreds of Chevys, Fords, Studebakers, Nash Ramblers,
etc., etc. With this car we touch two stones with one stroke: neat, vintage
railroadiana and classic cars.
