I believe the thread discussing "Rapid / Paper/Acrylic models" may be 
describing Stereolithography. Our company has an outside source that 
uses that process to produce detailed mockups using CAD files as the 
input to the machine. Basically a laser is suspended above a tank of 
liquid acrylic. As the laser hits the material it instantly cures. That 
first layer is the "bottom" of the part. A tray in the tank drops down 
about a millimeter then the laser cures the next layer. And so on and 
so forth. It takes quite awhile. The parts come out very nice and can 
be further detailed and painted. But when we had a piece made that was 
6" H x"5 Lx"1W it cost +$200. It may be a bit expensive for a S sized 
car. They must produce those N and Z pieces in large batches to get the 
prices that low.
