I built a centerbeam (lumber car) many years ago from the article in the 1981 S
Gaugian. The article uses all wood. I made everything below the floor from
brass, and everything above from styrene. I made the winches from 3/16" wide
brass channel. I cut the channel in about .050 long. Then drill .020 holes in
the webs of the channel across from each other. Then put a peice of .020 wire
through the two holes. It is not 100% accurate, but close enough for a non
contest model. You could also use styrene channel in place of brass. If anyone
wants a drawing of what I did, contact me off line. Good luck with the flat car.
