All you guys looking for bridge flextrack should go back to what makes S
famous, scratch building! I am not knocking Tomalco track and switches,
which is quality stuff, but years ago I made two jigs. One takes standard
road ties with road spacing. The other, on the back of the same board,
takes 8” x 8” x 10’ bridge ties, spaced 8” apart. The bridge jig holds
about 18” of ties. The road jig holds 36”. Sure, that means on the bridge
jig I think I glued about 150 blocks and I am sure twice that on the road
jig, but they last forever. I insert stained basswood ties and then run a
strip of ¼” wide masking tape down the center line, then pick them up and
store them in rolls. My road track is set with Walthers Goo and reinforced
with spikes in every tie using my Kadee spiker. The bridge and trestle ties
don’t get the spikes but I find the Goo holds them just fine and if it ever
needs adjustment a little heat from my soldering iron does the trick. The
inside guard rails are also held with Goo. My over 10’ long bridge-trestle
combination which was pictured on the SHS website is alive and well. I have
8” x 8” basswood edges on all the bridges and trestles but they are just
glued to the ends of the ties with white glue. Oh, yes, and water buckets
every 100 feet or so on alternate sides. Wally Collins

Subject: Re: {S-Scale List} Bridge Flex - Homemade

Homemade bridge flex... this gives an INTERESTING idea!!! I wonder how good
the result would look if one were to take some regular Tomalco flex track
and remove ALL of the webbing (the plastic connecting pieces directly under
that rail) between the ties and slide all of the ties closer together, then
mount it on top of the rest of the trestle structure?
