This is the monthly "reminder" about the S-Scale model trains list.
This list is for discussion of 1/64th scale railroad modeling and RELATED
topics. American Flyer and other toy train discussion is at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/s-trains/
The list rules are simply put; stay on topic and be courteous. 8<)
Unfortunately, there are widely varying opinions of how to do this. This
summary tells you the WHAT, and adds the WHY for the most commonly overlooked
rules and guidelines. Remember, this list is for fun. If your comment can't
be made in a friendly way, it probably needs to be made off-list! You may
review the complete rules / guidelines by going to our shared files area, read
the file named new-members.
BUT FIRST: A new member commented on how nice it is to belong to a list that
has few flaming messages. Congratulations, and KEEP IT UP!
- Sign your first and last name so that all of us know who each other are.
Many of us have known each other for years through NASG (www.nasg.org) and club
activities, and often recognize each other simply by first name, e-mail
address, last initial. However, new-comers do not know US, and we do not know
who they are unless we all use our full names. This helps make the list a more
"personal" place and helps enable us to know who each other are.
- Keep your notes "on topic".
There is wide variation in the amount of time and interest that each of us has
for messages that deviate from the list's core purpose. A few messages that
deviate slightly are not a problem for most people. As the messages become
more off-center, they are less useful, and as the number of off-center messages
increases, the more members complain and leave the list.
- When you REPLY, edit the previous message so that you re-send only what is
needed to provide context for your message.
If you don't know how to do this, feel free to ask the moderators. In most
cases, DO NOT re-send the entire previous message. It is not needed, it makes
reading messages more difficult (especially in the DIGEST version of the list),
and it reduces the number of messages that the archives have room for.
- Use proper grammar and punctuation. When you REPLY, place your message at
the top of the reply message.
This is so that we can easily read your notes.
- Do NOT USE ALL CAPS except for brief EMPHASIS.
More than brief usage is used in e-mail to indicate SHOUTING or ANGER.
If a member is violating the rules, please do not assume the moderators are
doing nothing about it. To avoid embarrassing members and because many
violations are inadvertent, we write to them off-list.
If you have any suggestions, concerns, comments regarding these guidelines,
please contact the list moderators;
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
If you have a concern regarding another member's postings, please contact them
directly (off-list) or contact the moderators.
Have fun! Support our many manufacturers.
