Dave, I'll try to keep the answer to your question simple. The
moderators are enforcing the list rules. It unfair to the list
members if everybody is allowed to make up their own rules. An out of
control list will destroy the list far faster than the concern that
you express. The purpose of the list is what the members want it to
be. People sign up because the stated purpose is discussing trains
"This S-Scale YAHOO Group is for Discussion of 1/64th Scale Model
Railroading; both Standard and Narrow Gauge." Anybody is free to
submit an off-topic note to the moderators for their approval.

My ONLY priority is to serve our hobby by helping provide what the
majority of list members want. The current rules are intended to
reflect what the members want. As I said, the issue of expanding the
range of acceptable topics was discussed in the past, and rejected.
If the rules are "wrong", the list members can vote for change by
using the Group POLL function. Anybody may start a poll. That is far
better and more effective than writing an inflammatory note.

Over the years there have been several complaints that the rules are
too tight, there have been about double the complaints that the rules
are too loose. One person has told me that he quit the list because
the rules were too tight, several people have told me that they quit
the list because the rules were too loose or because of mis-use of the
list such as what we are now discussing.

I invite anybody to write to me personally or to the moderators on
this concern.

Now, back to the regularly scheduled discussion! 8<) Ted Larson
