For the original question, I believe NASG had a convention in Silver
Spring, MD in 1977 or 78. I began attending in 1979 and have been at
every one since. Since 1979 Pennsylvania has hosted the most(5),
with Michigan, New York and Ohio at 3 each. Illinois, New Jersey,
Wisconsin, California and Massachusetts have held two each.
Missouri, Colorado, Washington and Minnesota one. Not sure who is
further south, Kansas City (1989) or Silver Spring.

In the 'good ole daz', NASG used to sponsor several booths for joint
S promotional areas at the NMRA National Train Shows. We
participated in a great one in Atlanta in 1995 (I think?). Not sure
whether that consititutes 'farthest south' or not...

As David says, all it takes is a local group to step up and sponsor.
