   Hi Bill, That came out looking good. I'd have probably done it by
filling the coupler gap with styrene and not used an overlay(unless
there were other errors on the pilot that I wanted to hide). 
 Plastic will sand but it's easier to learn how to scrape it smooth
then just sand the primer for the final finish.
   Loco pilots are always banged up a bit so I'd not try to get it too
smooth anyway!......dave
