Although high prices are a discouragement to entry modelers, it is obviously a demand driven number in this case. It has relatively little to do with the overall cost of S scale. It does, however, start another avenue for sales -- the collector -- which is understated in the market. My experience has been that relatively LITTLE of what is bought is actually used, that most of it ends up hidden on a shelf in a closet, regardless of scale. If making something more "collectable" is bad, I didn't see it at the cash register! What happened to Micro-Trains was phenomenal; I could sell ANYTHING that they produced. I would love to see that happen to S!!
