Hi Ed, 42 inch long will mean a lot of joints, it would be easier
if you could use longer sections and less joints. The good news is 42
inch by 24 inch will be light enough and stiff enough if built with
just 3/4 plywood so you can save the complication of framework (maybe
add a pair of fiddle rails along the top to keep cars from falling off
if the going gets rough). For seven sections you'll need four with
legs and three to hang between them. The 7 tops will store without
trouble but the legs will take up some room. I'd probably look into
cast aluminium socket fittings that can be screwed to the bottom of
the plywood and that will accept aluminium tubing legs, that way when
it's apart you'd have the tops and a pile of legs to hide. You could
stack the tops up and box up the leg tubing. You'd also need to find
some hardware for connecting the sections, maybe dowels for alignment
and some kind of latches to keep it together? How tall will this be
from the floor to the top of rails? The height will determine the leg
design.....dave
