Hi!

It is true that all of these diesels we have been talking about have been done
in brass, but on average, I would rather have a plastic unit for its running
qualities. When you talk about the RSD4/5, that is especially true... Also,
most of these models exist in quantities of 200 or fewer (lots fewer), and do
little to satisfy the modern demand for locos. Back when they were made, it
was hard to sell 100!

  Morning List,

Several years ago, at a show in Joplin, Missouri, there was a fellow that
came in there from Hannibal, Mo with a SD unit built from AM shells, and it was
extremely well done, unpainted at the time, but he had captured the real feel
of the SD units, reworked the expanded radiator section, and had used the River
Raisin SD drive chassis for power. He was a retired Marine, I think his last
name was Chandler...at the time he had made several calf units for the SW-9's
which were also extremely well done.

A couple of the SD units have shown up on eBay, two at one time I recall
painted Great Northern, super paint jobs each unit was set in at $700 and that
was what they went for.

The Alco RSD4/5 was done by Alco Models in the past so it too is still out
there in places.

Sometimes I think it would be interesting to see a piece count on the various
brass engines and cars contained on this list, without any names or addresses,
but just a number to compare to production runs....there are a lot of brass
pieces that show up from odd places from estates or individuals that just
bought it thinking at the time, they might get into the hobby....
