Andy's comments got me to thinking (trouble!). I suspect that one of the
reason's that modern era rolling stock is so scarce is its size. Although S
is the "perfect" size / scale, it is still difficult for most folks to find the
space for a model railroad of any size. If you go to modern rolling stock, it
ups the ante on track space requirements by nearly 50% from steam area
modeling. Modern railraoding is BIG, which of course, lends to its appeal.
At the same time, the costs for making model molds goes up, while the demand
goes down...
