Has anyone tried changing the window arrangements on the heavyweight
sleepers--like maybe changing an 8-1-2 to an 8-5, etc. Would there be a place
in the
market for replacement window sets that could be used when making these
changes?
I am pretty satisfied with having with having two heavyweight sleepers but
very dissatisfied with not having an open platform observation and a dining car
to go with them. I have thought a lot about changing the windows to make a
dining car but having vestibules at both ends really puts a damper on that. .

Dick Karnes provided me with some detailed recommendations on how I could
convert a cafe car to an observation car. I think it is going to work out
great
and is not all that difficult. I have procrastinated for a year on the last
part which is to craft a rear wall with a door and two windows. I may end up
cutting out the rear wall of an AF or AM heavyweight observation instead but I
hat to tear up those cars unless I come up with a plan to salvage what is left.

I have ordered and received sides (2 sets) from Laser Horizons for a dining
car. Of course that will make a modernized smooth-sided heavyweight instead of
a car with the original riveted sides (I don't know if that is a correct
definition but most of you probably know what I mean). The sides were cut to
represent a Southern Railway modernized dining car. Again I have
procrastinated
for about a year on this.
.
I also want a smooth sided streamlined dining car with the intention of
decorating it for L&N. My intention is to apply the extra set of sides to a
full
length AM coach or sleeperI.
