Today the mailman brought the new Southern RR 11-rib low side gondola.
A mighty fine kit based on a quick look-see. Quality parts with lots
and lots of detail both inside, outside, and underneath. One humorous
item of note is the pair of included SHS freight trucks which, in my
kit, had three axles with scale wheels and one axle with AF-compatible
wheels. Is Don Thompson attempting to create a new S category here?
Maybe it will become known as "scale-rail" which is part scale and part
hi-rail. Maybe "hi-scale"? Minor problem for me since I swap all the
wheels out in favor of non-magnetic wheels by NWSL. Just my personal
preference, nothing really wrong with SHS trucks. Wouldn't want anyone
to get the wrong idea. Can't wait to see what old "S"mokey does next.
Looks like the potential for some really neat stuff is here.
