Ironically, it's often the guys who consider themselves the biggest 
promoters of S who won't have anything to do with modellers in other scales, 
and that's counter-productive.  In a group of modellers of various scales; 
where all exchange information, techniques &c as equals, and where all learn 
from each other, the participation of an S scale modeller will earn more 
respect for S than an S blowhard whose only communication is to "enlighten" 
the rest of the group on the superiority of his scale.

Your local NMRA division and region get-togethers are perfect for this.
